Choruses
YMC has four ensembles, tailored to age and level of challenge desired:
Saturdays

10:30 - noon
9:30 - 10:30
noon - 1:30
12:30 - 1:30
A Musicum
A Musicum
Ages 7 - 12+ No previous training necessary – just come have fun while making good music! Musical self-confidence and basic vocal technique are taught using the kind of excellent repertoire kids deserve but rarely experience, including classical and folk music from all parts of the world. Each child discovers their voice is an essential part of something bigger and more wonderful than they might have imagined. Choristers will be singing all the way home! For those with sufficient instrumental training, there are opportunities to include playing with our singing.
Saturday 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

B Musicum
B Musicum
Ages 10.5 - 17 In the model of the original "Chamber Singers," this a cappella group requires vocal independence, and brings a new level of challenge to students who have been singing in A Musicum or have other previous musical experience. One only needs a strong ear to sing in this group; it is not necessary yet to be able to confidently sight sing the music from the page. Part-emphasized recordings often provided to facilitate each student's mastery. Please see "more info" regarding expectations and audition.
Saturday 10:30 - 12:00

Collegium Musicum
Collegium Musicum
Age 10 - 17+ For those singers who have acquired strong vocal independence (can hold their solo part against other moving parts), this a cappella group explores music from the Renaissance through modern day arrangements. Young musicians with considerable instrumental and/or singing experience and a very well-developed ear and/or the ability to sight read learn challenging music in a fun atmosphere. Part-emphasized recordings are provided to facilitate each student's requisite mastery. Collegium Musicum is occasionally invited to perform in off-campus events, and were silver medalists in the most recent Golden Gate International Choral Festival.
Note: because we are preparing for the July 2026 GGICF, we will not be accepting new students next spring (2026). Those who wish to join us this fall 2025 will need to catch up on a few songs that we've already learned for the festival (guidance and learning recordings provided).
Saturday noon - 1:30

St. Alban's Church
1501 Washington Ave.
Albany, CA 94706
(about a mile from Crowden)

new! – Twerps
Ages 5-6 Twerps is YMC's long-awaited, much-demanded, new class offering, created for our youngest musicians!
Through singing, movement, and play, children revel in the joy of active music making while building a foundation for fluency and literacy using the Kodály method.
Saturday 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

musicus: one who plays or sings music — musician
musicum: pl. musicus
Not actually a picture of Twerps yet, because we've only just starting that group!
Still, this captures the spirit of our YMC gang. :-)
